Copy text from a PDF

Selecting text in a PDF viewer gives you hard line breaks in every paragraph, table cells run together and page numbers in the middle of sentences. Drop the file on Lass0 instead and paste it as it was meant to read.

A real example

A 2 page handover memo with a table that crosses the page break. Download the PDF and compare. The text below is what Lass0 produced for it, unedited, in 53 seconds on an Apple M1 Pro MacBook.

Documents
  1. Reading 2 pages
  2. Sorting headings, lists and tables
  3. Ready to copy as Rich

How to do it

  1. Choose Open Document from the menu bar icon.

  2. Drop the PDF on the window.

  3. Pick rich text for Word, email or Notion, plain text for chat, or Markdown for notes.

Rich text pastes a real table and real headings into Word, Google Docs, Mail or Notion. Plain text separates table cells with tabs, so a table pastes straight into a spreadsheet.

Questions

What if the PDF is password protected?

Lass0 says so and copies nothing. Open it, save a copy without the password, and drop that.

Can I copy just one page?

Not from the Documents window, which reads the whole file. To copy one page or part of it, open the PDF, press the capture shortcut and drag over what you want. That takes a second or two.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read on your computer, the text is sorted by a model that runs on your computer, and only the text is kept, in your timeline. The privacy page lists every network call the app makes, and none of them carries your documents.

Is it free?

The free plan covers 100 plain text copies a week, with smaller allowances for rich text, Markdown and Visual layout. Pro is $6 a month or $48 a year and removes the limits, and adds copying from the timeline, Collect sessions and all five cleaners.
