# Describe visuals

Pro: charts, diagrams, timelines and pictures written out in words in Rich and Markdown.

Some of what you capture can't be text: a chart, a flowchart, a timeline, a photograph. With Describe visuals on, Lass0 writes each one out in words, at the place in the text where it sat. The description is detailed enough that someone who can't see the picture could redraw it: every label and value as written, the layout, and each connection between boxes with its direction and label.

It appears in Rich and Markdown only, as a block quote that starts with what kind of visual it is. Plain text and Visual never get a description. The labels of a chart or diagram are replaced by its description rather than repeated. Turn it on in Settings, then Visuals, or with the Describe visuals switch under the Rich and Markdown tabs. It applies to captures taken after you turn it on; the picture itself is never kept, so older captures can't be described afterwards.

The first time you turn it on, Lass0 downloads a second on-device model (about 3.3 GB, checked against a fingerprint before it is used). Everything runs on your device. Only areas that have something drawn on them besides text are looked at, and a description takes roughly ten to thirty seconds. Plain text is copied straight away and the description follows.

If the model can't describe a capture, the capture says why and its text is untouched. The description comes from a small model: it reads labels well but can still miss a faint line or misjudge a crowded diagram, so check anything you rely on.
